Unlocking Wellness: Understanding the Role of a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner

In a world inundated with conflicting information about health, nutrition, and wellness, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and lost, not knowing what is best for you and your body. Enter the Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP); a certified professional such as myself who takes a food-first approach to holistic health while honoring your specific needs to help restore balance and vitality to your body.

What is a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP)?

Let's start by defining what an NTP is. Per the Nutritional Therapy Association, NTPs are health professionals who are equipped with a deep understanding of functional nutrition, anatomy, and lifestyle factors, and empower clients to optimize their health and well-being in a meaningful and sustainable way.

NTPs typically work with you via one-on-one consultations with the focus of getting to the root cause of your concerns. Concentrated in the six foundations of health; Nutrient-Dense Diet, Blood Sugar Regulation, Fatty Acid Balance, Digestion, Hydration and Mineral Balance (Nutritional Therapy Association, 2021), an NTP will equip you with the necessary knowledge to support these foundations and inspire you to become an advocate for your own health.

Your time with an NTP includes a thorough review of your Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire (NAQ), which is a proprietary tool exclusively available to NTPs. This tool helps provide a holistic view of your symptoms and identifies imbalances in your body. Also, we will look at a food and mood journal and an initial interview questionnaire. This questionnaire provides in-depth health, nutrition, and lifestyle information to help understand your motivations, concerns, needs, and health history.

Herbs as a natural remedy to improve overall well-being

How can an NTP help you?

At the core of an NTP’s practice is the belief that your body is unique and has a natural, innate ability to heal itself. By utilizing tools like the NAQ mentioned above, we analyze symptoms to prioritize areas of support and develop personalized plans tailored to your unique needs. With over 1,200 hours of curricular training, NTPs are well-equipped to address a wide range of health concerns, including but not limited to: digestion, blood sugar regulation, hydration and mineral balance. Kathy's story is a powerful testament to how NTPs can help you find answers to the symptoms you are experiencing.
